Stakeholder Notification/
Public Notice

The land trust accreditation program recognizes land conservation organizations that meet national quality standards for protecting important natural places and working lands forever. 7 Lakes Alliance is pleased to announce it is applying for renewal of accreditation. A public comment period is now open.

The Land Trust Accreditation Commission, an independent program of the Land Trust Alliance, conducts an extensive review of each applicant’s policies and programs.

The Commission invites public input and accepts signed, written comments on pending applications. Comments must relate to how 7 Lakes Alliance complies with national quality standards. These standards address the ethical and technical operation of a land trust. For the full list of standards see http://www.landtrustaccreditation.org/help-and-resources/indicator-practices.

To learn more about the accreditation program and to submit a comment, visit www.landtrustaccreditation.org, or email your comment to info@landtrustaccreditation.org. Comments may also be mailed to the Land Trust Accreditation Commission, Attn: Public Comments, 36 Phila Street, Suite 2, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

Comments on 7 Lakes Alliance’s application will be most useful by December 20, 2025.

Pete and Lynn Picture Award 20240714.jpg

Thank you for the outpouring of support at our recent Summer Celebration! A special thanks to our board members, Scott Finlay and Jane Eberle for their leadership and contagious passion for our mission to conserve the lakes and lands of the Belgrade Lakes watershed for all. Congratulations to Peter Kallin, who was presented with the Eddie Mayer Award for his invaluable contributions to conservation in the Belgrade Lakes region. Fellow 7 Lakes board member, Lynn Matson presented Pete with a stunning original painting by Lynn that depicted Pete landing a rainbow trout on Long Pond.

As announced at the Summer Celebration, our Land for the Lakes Summer Appeal is underway to fund a $1,000,000 revolving land fund. This fund will allow 7 Lakes to make strategic purchases of land for conservation throughout the Belgrade Lakes region. We are also hopeful that conservation-minded friends and neighbors will consider donating land or conservation easements. Conserved land is the most effective and cost-efficient means to keep our lakes healthy. Stay tuned for an exciting announcement on a matching challenge!

We are pleased to share a special video below that was unveiled at our Summer Celebration.

  • Create a native plant buffer between your lawn and the water. Grass lawns do not prevent runoff due to shallow root systems. Phosphorus is in all soil, even if you don't use fertilizer!

  • Work towards getting your property LakeSmart certified.

  • Get a conservation easement on your land.

  • Donate to 7 Lakes Alliance. Act now and your donation will be matched by a generous donor through September 30, 2023. Update: Extended to Oct. 15.
