DESCRIPTION:UPDATE: Due to a forecast of 80% cloud cover tonight\, this event has been moved inside and will be held on Monday\, July 6th at 8pm at 137 Main Street\, Belgrade. \nLook up and experience the beauty of Maine’s dark skies during this guided Night Sky Tour in Rome\, Maine. \nMilky Way Galaxy over Vienna Mountain Blueberry Barrens by John Meader \nAstronomer\, educator\, and Maine State Guide John Meader will lead lead us through a tour of that evening’s constellations\, stars\, visible planets\, and the Milky Way. Participants will learn the wonders of what they can see with their eyes alone. We often see meteors (shooting stars)\, satellites\, and sometimes the aurora borealis (northern lights). John routinely shares some skyline\, astronomy news\, a discussion of ways to fight light pollution\, and will answer all your questions to be best of his ability. \nPoor weather plan: Night Sky Tours are very tricky to plan\, as the sky conditions are always changing! If the sky is not clear enough\, John will host a virtual guided star tour at the 7 Lakes Alliance building at 137 Main Street in Belgrade on the same night. DESCRIPTION:Oh if trees could talk! \n \nPlease join us for a walk and talk about trees along the Blaisdell Trail on in Rome. Led by Maine Master Naturalist Susan Cottle\, the out and back walk will provide the opportunity to look at the forest landscape\, consider what we can tell from the lay of the land about its history and makeup\, and think about the infinite ways in which trees affect virtually every other living thing. SUMMARY:Guided Paddle on Salmon Lake
DESCRIPTION:Meet us at the Salmon Lake Boat Launch to join us on a guided paddle! \nPhoto by Alicia MacLeay \nGuided by 7 Lakes Alliance staff Josie Miller\, we will paddle from the Salmon Lake Boat Launch and stick to the shore\, looking at aquatic plants and other wildlife. This paddle will be approximately two hours and will stay along the shoreline. We will have the opportunity to get off at The Narrows Preserve to have a snack and grab a drink of water before heading back to the boat launch. \n  \nThings to bring\n\nSun protection\nPaddle Craft (canoe\, kayak\, paddle board)\n\n7 Lakes Alliance has one canoe that can be borrowed for this event. Please email sally.whittington@7lakesalliance.org by 2pm on Thursday the 30th to inquire.\n\n\nCoast Guard approved life jacket/PFD. Wearing a personal flotation device is required on all paddling programs with 7 Lakes Alliance.\nBinoculars if you have them\nWater and snacks to be out on the water for a couple hours\nRecommended to bring a change of clothes\n\nMeeting location\nPark at the Salmon Lake Boat Launch located off Spaulding Point Road in Belgrade. These coordinates can be put directly into your GPS to bring you to the launch: 44°31’16.0″N 69°47’37.3″W.
