SUMMARY:Guided Paddle in Mercer Bog
DESCRIPTION:Explore the wildlife of a protected bog in Mercer! \nMercer Bog \nJoin us for a paddle on Mercer Bog Stream\, a 371 acre Wildlife Management area that has open\, shallow water perfect for kayaking and canoeing. Along the edge of fresh meadow\, marsh and swamp areas\, we’ll see waterfowl\, turtles\, and interesting aquatic plants.  Put-in will be near a small dam in Mercer\, then we’ll paddle into the open water and up into the small stream and back. \nParking\nMeet at the Mercer Historical Society\, located at 77 Main Street\, Mercer\, ME 04957. We will drop off canoes & kayaks on the south side of the dam on Main Street\, and then park at the Historical Society Building. 7 Lakes Alliance staff and volunteers will be there to help with parking and unloading boats. \n		\n			parking location		\n\n  \nWhat to Bring:\n\nPaddle craft: canoe\, kayak\, paddle board\nLifejacket/PFD: must be warn the entire program\nSun protection: sunscreen\, hat\, long sleeves\nWater & snacks to be out on the water for a couple of hours\n\n7 Lakes has a couple of canoes to borrow if you do not have your own paddle craft. DESCRIPTION:Meet us at the Salmon Lake Boat Launch to join us on a guided paddle! \nPhoto by Alicia MacLeay \nGuided by 7 Lakes Alliance staff Josie Miller\, we will paddle from the Salmon Lake Boat Launch and stick to the shore\, looking at aquatic plants and other wildlife. This paddle will be approximately two hours and will stay along the shoreline. We will have the opportunity to get off at The Narrows Preserve to have a snack and grab a drink of water before heading back to the boat launch. \n  \nThings to bring\n\nSun protection\nPaddle Craft (canoe\, kayak\, paddle board)\n\n7 Lakes Alliance has one canoe that can be borrowed for this event. Please email sally.whittington@7lakesalliance.org by 2pm on Thursday the 30th to inquire.\n\n\nCoast Guard approved life jacket/PFD. Wearing a personal flotation device is required on all paddling programs with 7 Lakes Alliance.\nBinoculars if you have them\nWater and snacks to be out on the water for a couple hours\nRecommended to bring a change of clothes\n\nMeeting location\nPark at the Salmon Lake Boat Launch located off Spaulding Point Road in Belgrade.
