This property\, acquired by 7 Lakes in 2024\, was extensively logged in the past and we are taking this opportunity to establish a resilient forest that will thrive in the future. \n  \nWhat to Expect\nParticipants should expect a full workday of unloading trees\, digging holes\, and planting trees along with mulch\, stakes\, and tree tubes. Tree plantings will be divided into three zones: Wind throw mitigation\, climate resilient native trees\, and assisted migration plots. We welcome people of all experience levels to join us\, but all participants must be able to walk short distances over uneven surfaces. \nParticipants should bring: \n\nFood and water\nGloves\nClose-toed shoes\nAppropriate clothes to work outside\nIf you have one\, please bring a shovel\, as we have a limited number to give out.\n\nParking\nPark at the Belgrade Transfer Station in the parking area to the left of the gate. Transfer Station: 92 Dunn Rd\, Belgrade\, ME. Overflow parking will be directed to the Dunn Road Conservation Area just down the road. 7 Lakes Alliance staff will shuttle people from the Transfer Station to the work site. \nEvent Policies\n\nWe ask everyone attending 7 Lakes Alliance events to treat people\, plants\, and animals with respect.\n7 Lakes staff may be taking pictures during this event. DESCRIPTION:For many years\, 7 Lakes Alliance has been managing a small Japanese knotweed infestation at Mt. Phillip by hand pulling. Join us on Thursday\, May 29th at 12pm for a workday where we will address this spring’s new growth of knotweed. Work will focus on cutting and pulling stems and removing as many roots as possible. Japanese knotweed spreads through fragmentation\, so all plant matter will be bagged up and disposed of properly. \nWhat to Bring: \n\nLong pants and close toed shoes (we recommend long sleeves too)\nGloves\nFood and water\nBug spray\nSunscreen and bug protection if desired\n\nDriving Directions to Trailhead: A parking lot is located on the north side of Route 225\, directly across from Starbird Lane\, 1.5 miles east of Rome Corner (the junction of Routes 27 and 225). \nEvent Policies \n\nWe ask everyone attending 7 Lakes events to treat people\, plants\, and animals with respect.\nPets will not be allowed at this event.\n7 Lakes staff may be taking pictures during this event. SUMMARY:Volunteer Trail Day on Fogg Island
DESCRIPTION:After a long winter\, Fogg Island’s trail needs some maintenance to get it ready for the summer season! Join 7 Lakes Alliance for a day of clearing corridor and tread on the beautiful Fogg Island Preserve. \nThis trail has in infestation of autumn olive\, an invasive shrub. Controlling this invasive species is a priority on this property\, so we be removing any autumn olive that we see during the day. \nDriving Directions to Trailhead: From Cottle Hill Road in Mt. Vernon\, turn onto Spring Hill Road. After about a half mile\, you will pass the “Fogg Island Preserve” sign on your left. From there follow the arrows on the blue “Fogg Island Preserve” signs and arrive at a gravel parking area. \nTasks: \n\nPruning back the trees that have grown up along trail\nRemoving invasive autumn olive\nClearing the tread of the trail where necessary\, and raking drainages to promote water flow off the trail\n(This is a long trail\, and these two tasks alone will take most of the day)\nPicking up trash and debris along the access road and trail\n\nWhat to bring: \n\nWork gloves\, sturdy work shoes\, long pants\nWater\nLunch/snacks\nBug spray\nSunscreen and appropriate clothing to be out in the sun!\n\nTools you could bring (7 Lakes will provide tools as well) \n\nLoppers\nPruning saw\nHatchet or small axe\nRake or hoe\nEye protection and hearing protection (7 Lakes staff may be running a chainsaw)

Join 7 Lakes Alliance for a day of clearing corridor and tread on this trail\, as well as clearing blowdown that has fallen across the trail. \nDriving Directions to Trailhead: Drive approximately one mile north of Belgrade Lakes Village on Route 27. Turn right (east) onto Mountain Drive; a parking area is located at 0.3 miles on the left (north) side of Mountain Drive. \nTasks: \n\nPruning trees and bushes along the trail corridor\nClearing the tread of the trail where necessary\, and raking drainages to promote water flow off the trail.\nRemoving loose rocks in the trail\nClearing downed trees and logs along the trail where necessary\nPicking up trash and debris along the road and trail\n\nWhat to bring: \n\nWork gloves\, sturdy work shoes\, and long pants\nWater\nLunch/snacks\nBug spray\nSunscreen and appropriate clothing to be out in the sun!\n\nTools you could bring (7 Lakes will provide tools as well) \n\nLoppers\nHand saw\nHatchet or small axe\nRake or hoe\nSafety glasses and hearing protection (7 Lakes staff may be running a chainsaw)\n\nEvent Policies \n\nWe ask everyone attending 7 Lakes events to treat people\, plants\, and animals with respect.\nPets will not be allowed at this event.\n7 Lakes staff may be taking pictures during this event. DESCRIPTION:After a long winter the French Mountain trail needs some maintenance to get it ready for the summer season! Join 7 Lakes Alliance for a day of clearing corridor and tread on this trail\, as well as clearing blowdown that has fallen across the trail. \nRain date for this event is the following day\, May 9th from 11 am – 3 pm. \nDriving Directions to Trailhead: the French Mountain parking lot is located on the east side of Watson Pond Road\, 0.7 miles south of Watson Pond Road’s junction with Route 27. Look for the blue way-finding sign with the trail name and 7 Lakes logo. \nTasks: \n\nPruning trees and bushes along the trail corridor\nClearing the tread of the trail where necessary\, and raking drainages to promote water flow off the trail. Join 7 Lakes Alliance for a day of clearing corridor and tread on this trail\, as well as clearing blowdown that has fallen across the trail. \nThe rain date for this event is the following day\, May 3rd from 11 am-3 pm. \nDriving Directions to Trailhead: Meet at the parking lot located on the north side of Route 225\, directly across from Starbird Lane\, 1.5 miles east of Rome Corner (the junction of Routes 27 and 225).
