SUMMARY:Special Event for Belgrade Stream Residents: Invasive Variable-leaf Milfoil ID and Removal
DESCRIPTION:Special Event for Belgrade Stream Residents\n  \nDo you have invasive variable-leaf milfoil growing around your dock? Come learn how to safely clear a 10′ × 10′ area using approved removal techniques.  In Maine\, special permits and training are required to remove rooted aquatic vegetation. These requirements help protect wildlife habitat and prevent invasive plants from spreading to new areas.  7 Lakes Alliance\, Friends of Messalonskee\, and the newly formed Friends of Belgrade Stream are here to help! \n  \nEvent Location:\nCarry-in launch off Route 27 Across from Hammond Lumber \nWhat to Expect:\nSeasoned veterans in the fight against milfoil will demonstrate how to: \n● Properly identify and remove variable-leaf milfoil \n● Minimize fragmentation and spread during removal \n● Clear a small 10′ × 10′ area around a dock \n● Install a benthic barrier over the cleared area to block sunlight and suppress milfoil regrowth \nThis will be a hands-on demonstration\, and volunteers are encouraged to join us in the water! We will be working in approximately waist-deep water. \nWhat to Bring:\nPlease bring water\, sunscreen\, a sun hat\, a bathing suit or clothes that can get wet\, and water shoes or secure sandals.  Water shoes or sandals are required for anyone entering the water to help protect against foot injuries—and leeches! Come learn practical techniques you can use to help reclaim the area around your dock while protecting Belgrade Stream from further milfoil spread. \n
