SUMMARY:Dark Sky Tour on Vienna Mountain
DESCRIPTION:Look up and experience the beauty of Maine’s dark skies during this guided Night Sky Tour in Rome\, Maine. \nMilky Way Galaxy over Vienna Mountain Blueberry Barrens by John Meader \nAstronomer\, educator\, and Maine State Guide John Meader will lead lead us through a tour of that evening’s constellations\, stars\, visible planets\, and the Milky Way. Participants will learn the wonders of what they can see with their eyes alone. We often see meteors (shooting stars)\, satellites\, and sometimes the aurora borealis (northern lights). John routinely shares some skyline\, astronomy news\, a discussion of ways to fight light pollution\, and will answer all your questions to be best of his ability. \nPoor weather plan: Night Sky Tours are very tricky to plan\, as the sky conditions are always changing! If the sky is not clear enough\, John will host a guided presentation at the 7 Lakes Alliance building at 137 Main Street in Belgrade on the same night. All participants who have registered for this event will receive an email by 7pm on July 6th if we have to move the presentation inside. \nParking\nWe will be meeting on Vienna Mountain Road where the State land has a public parking area. Drive approximately 1 mile up Vienna Mountain road where you will find a 7 Lakes “Event Parking” signs pointing to a wood chip parking area. Plan to park by 8:45pm so you are not arriving when the program starts at 9pm. Note that Vienna Mountain Road is a gravel road and cars with low clearance should use caution. \n \n Location Pin \n\n  \nEvent Policies\n\nWe ask everyone attending 7 Lakes Alliance events to treat people\, plants\, and animals with respect.\n7 Lakes staff may be taking pictures during this event. If you would not like to be photographed\, please let staff know during the event or contact staff ahead of time.\nPets will not be allowed at this event.\nSafety is our primary concern. If you are acting in an unsafe way\, 7 Lakes Alliance will ask you to leave the event.
