SUMMARY:Nature Journaling and Present Tense Poetry
DESCRIPTION:All aboard the 7 Lakes Alliance Floating Classroom for an emersion into present tense poetry and nature journaling! This program will be led by Maine Master Naturalists Liz Koucky and Sarah Carlson. \nPresent Tense Poetry is a way to notice and record moments of stillness and flow in the waters\, woods\, and sky all around us. These experiences often become metaphoric moments of connection within. Participants will explore how to integrate drawing and/or photography with words to capture and hold these connections. This may simply be for the sheer pleasure of doing so or for times when there might be a desire to remember and revisit such moments. \nLiz Koucky\, longtime resident of Rome\, is a retired teacher\, Stewardship Volunteer with 7 Lakes Alliance and Maine Master Naturalist.  All year long\, she enjoys exploring the wonderful woods and waters of the Belgrade Lakes region. Sarah Carlson\, M.Ed.\, is a retired elementary teacher\, published poet\, certified mindfulness instructor\, and a Maine Master Naturalist.  She combines her unique poetic voice with photography of scenes from her outdoor adventures in her home state of Maine and other wild places. \nThe Floating Classroom has limited capacity so please register for this event below. SUMMARY:Colby Research Student Presentations
DESCRIPTION:  \nJoin us on Thursday\, July 31st\, from 5-7 to hear about the research that Colby students have been doing across the Belgrade Lakes this summer! We will have a series of short presentations by students on their projects on wake boats\, AI methods for forecasting water quality\, nutrients and zooplankton in our lakes\, the North Pond algal blooms\, and loon monitoring! \nThese students bring fresh energy\, curiosity\, and insight into our collective efforts to understand and protect the Belgrade Lakes. Their contributions not only advance the science behind 7 Lakes Alliance’s lake conservation work but also help ensure that these waters remain healthy for generations to come. As you enjoy the beauty of the Belgrade Lakes region this summer\, know that a dedicated team of scientists\, both seasoned and emerging alike\, is working every day to keep our lakes clean and thriving. \nWe’re grateful for their work and invite our community to join us on July 31st at 5 p.m. at the 7 Lakes Alliance building to hear more about their scientific findings and what impact it has on informing lake science at 7 Lakes Alliance. \n  \n \n See Presentation Topics \n\n  \nEvent Policies\n\nWe ask everyone attending 7 Lakes Alliance events to treat people\, plants\, and animals with respect.\n7 Lakes staff may be taking pictures during this event. If you would not like to be photographed\, please let staff know during the event or contact staff ahead of time.
