Please stay with your child for the program if possible. \nWelcome to 7 Lakes Alliance and our Fish Friends experience! Come down to our building\, located on Main Street in Belgrade\, to see the Atlantic Salmon that we raise during the spring. We raise the salmon from their egg phase in February through their fry stage in May\, and then release them into the Sandy River to help maintain the last surviving population of endangered Atlantic Salmon as part of the Maine Audubon “Fish Friends” program. The Fish Friends program is dedicated to helping Atlantic Salmon through learning about life cycles\, highlighting Maine’s important habitat value\, increasing awareness for Maine’s value for Atlantic Salmon\, and encouraging participation in community projects. \nThis free program will consist of a lesson on the life cycle of Atlantic Salmon\, an activity book to go along with the lesson\, and up-close experience looking at our Atlantic Salmon population. DESCRIPTION:Every spring\, conditions come together to form one of the most eruptive wildlife migrations in the world – right in our backyards. The warm\, rainy nights of spring bring frogs and salamanders out in droves\, creating what is referred to as “big nights”. However\, many of these migrants face trouble as they meet one of the newest habitats on the landscape – roads. This talk will review the ecology of big nights\, the impacts of roads on wildlife\, and how you can get involved through the statewide and nationally recognized Maine Big Night program. \n\nThis spring\, 7 Lake will become a local hub for Big Night\, and will have kits prepared for volunteers to help amphibians cross the road safely. We use these observations as clues to understanding each mammal’s adaptations\, niche\, and habitat. \nA collection of skulls\, study skins\, and other specimens complements a discussion of adaptations and the role each animal plays in the food web.
