The purpose of the Adopt-A-Shoreline program is to recruit locals and visitors of the Belgrade Lakes to survey a shoreline of their choosing for invasive aquatic plants.
You DO NOT have to be a plant ID wizard! The Adopt-A-Shoreline pledge is a pretty low commitment way volunteers can do their part to keep our waters healthy.
What is the Adopt-A-Shoreline “pledge?”
- Attend an invasive aquatic plant identification course (1 hour commitment).
- Survey your adopted shoreline twice a season (one early season and one late season). Surveys can be conducted via kayak, snorkel, motorboat, and paddleboard.
- Report back and let us know what you found!
The most important part of the Adopt-A-Shoreline program is communication. We want to hear from you! Have you seen anything new growing up around your dock? Have you seen a plant with feather-divided leaves around? Let us know!
Want to Adopt a Shoreline?
Adopt-A-Shoreline is designed for everyone who lives on Great Pond or Long Pond, but anyone is encouraged to come.
