The purpose of the Adopt-A-Shoreline program is to recruit locals and visitors of the Belgrade Lakes to survey a shoreline of their choosing for invasive aquatic plants.

You DO NOT have to be a plant ID wizard! The Adopt-A-Shoreline pledge is a pretty low commitment way volunteers can do their part to keep our waters healthy.

What is the Adopt-A-Shoreline “pledge?”

  1. Attend an invasive aquatic plant identification course (1 hour commitment).
  2. Survey your adopted shoreline twice a season (one early season and one late season). Surveys can be conducted via kayak, snorkel, motorboat, and paddleboard.
  3. Report back and let us know what you found!

The most important part of the Adopt-A-Shoreline program is communication. We want to hear from you! Have you seen anything new growing up around your dock? Have you seen a plant with feather-divided leaves around? Let us know!

Want to Adopt a Shoreline?

Adopt-A-Shoreline is designed for everyone who lives on Great Pond or Long Pond, but anyone is encouraged to come.
