Pink Lady’s Slipper (Cypripedium acaule), an orchid native to the North East

Some of the most interesting flowers in Maine only bloom in the springtime before the trees leaf-out. These flowers take advantage of early-season sun that is not yet blocked by the leaves of trees. Join this guided hike with Maine Master Naturalist Liz Koucky on a walk to discover Mt. Phillip’s spring ephemerals. This trail has rocky and rooty sections, and the expected distance covered is 1 mile with approximately 150ft of elevation gain.

Parking

Meet at the Mt. Phillip main parking lot, located on route 225 in Rome. Overflow parking is located at the Mt. Phillip Lower Trailhead.
