
Every spring, conditions come together to form one of the most eruptive wildlife migrations in the world – right in our backyards. The warm, rainy nights of spring bring frogs and salamanders out in droves, creating what is referred to as “big nights”. However, many of these migrants face trouble as they meet one of the newest habitats on the landscape – roads. This talk will review the ecology of big nights, the impacts of roads on wildlife, and how you can get involved through the statewide and nationally recognized Maine Big Night program.
This spring, 7 Lake will become a local hub for Big Night, and will have kits prepared for volunteers to help amphibians cross the road safely. We are hosting this presentation from Maine Big Night so our audience can learn about amphibian migration and how you can do your part to protect these creatures.
