Join the Maine Forest Service to learn about live stakes as a tool for erosion control and conservation.
Live staking is a propagation method using cuttings from dormant trees or shrubs.
About the Event
Jared Gregory, District Forester from the Maine Forest Service, will lead a demonstration on the techniques for harvesting and installing live stakes for conservation and erosion control. We are hosting the event on French Mountain, where we will be remedying an active erosion site along the hiking trail.
- Learn to properly install and maintain live stakes
- Learn which species will propagate from cuttings and identifying healthy parent plants.
What to Expect
- We will be walking to the erosion site and in the forest to find parent plants.
- The event may last up to 2 hours, depending on the abundance of parent plants.
Parking
Parking at the trail head is limited, please consider carpooling from the Rome Park-and-Ride.
