Join local Poet Doug “Woody” Woodsum on 7 Lakes Alliance’s education boat for our Poetry Afloat program!
Poetry and Nature have gone hand in hand for centuries. Join poet Doug “Woody” Woodsum both to learn a little bit about nature poetry and to write a little. A two line couplet or a three line haiku can earn you the title: Poet. You can also learn more and write more. 7LA will provide everything you need, or bring your own supplies. Did you know that “imagery” in poetry involves all five senses and not just sight? Use rhythm and rhyme or don’t. Use metaphors, similes, hyperbole, personification, puns or not. This user friendly approach will help you out of your comfort zone, if needed. Samples from famous poets will be provided, and imitation is encouraged.
Doug “Woody” Woodsum has published poetry in Down East, The Maine Sunday Telegram, Yankee, and dozens of literary journals across the country. His book is The Lawns of Lobstermen.
Suggested age for this event: 12+
Meeting Location: This program will meet at 7 Lakes Alliance, 137 Main Street, Belgrade, ME 04917. Here, we will gather and review boat safety, board the 7 Lakes Alliance Floating Classroom (22 ft pontoon boat), and venture out onto Great Pond.
