What is Big Night? - Zoom Info Session
Learn about one of the most eruptive wildlife migrations in the world - right in our backyards!
Learn about one of the most eruptive wildlife migrations in the world – right in our backyards!

The warm, rainy nights of spring bring frogs and salamanders out in droves, creating what is referred to as “big nights”. These nights are when amphibians migrate from their winter habitats to vernal pools, where they reproduce in the spring. However, many of these migrants face trouble as they meet one of the newest habitats on the landscape – roads. This virtual presentation will review the ecology of big nights, the impacts of roads on wildlife, and how you can get involved through the statewide and nationally recognized Maine Big Night program.
This presentation will only be available on Zoom, there will be no in-person option.
Want to become an Amphibian Ambassador? 7 Lakes Alliance has adopted a site in Belgrade and will be hosting Big Night volunteer opportunities throughout the spring, and you can help!
