The Belgrade Lakes watershed is located in central Maine, just north of our capital city Augusta. This watershed is made up of many streams, wetlands, tributaries, and of course the seven lakes: East Pond, North Pond, McGrath Pond, Salmon Lake, Great Pond, Long Pond and Messalonskee Lake. Water that enters this watershed eventually flows out of Messalonskee Stream and into the Kennebec River, which leads to the ocean.

Lake Monitoring Update

In between crunching data and running water samples in the chemistry lab at Colby College, the Lake Science team continues to visit monitoring sites to collect under-ice data on all seven lakes.

Ice is never 100% safe. Measurements in the chart are specific to designated monitoring stations. Data reported February 18, 2026.
