Property Description
The Homestead Property is located just across the street from the Round Top Trailhead in the Kennebec Highlands. This property features a 0.3-mile loop trail, Homestead Trail, that is wheelchair accessible and wide enough for two people to travel side by side (or comfortably pass one another). It also features a large parking area including a turn-around area suitable for vans or busses, and a wheelchair accessible composting privy. This property is surrounded by the Kennebec Highlands Public Reserved Land on all sides, and hikers can begin here and walk down to the lake via the Long Pond Trail or make a wide loop around the property via the “B” Trail (see map). Both of these trails are designed for mountain bikes, so hikers should be aware of cyclists and share the trail.
7 Lakes Alliance is currently in the process of constructing a large open-air pavilion on the property that will be open to the public and used for educational programs and gatherings. Much of the work on the site has been completed, but the foundation and pavilion will be completed by 2026.
Please note that the access road to this property is a snowmobile trail in the winter, so vehicular access is prohibited in the winter. Visitors can access the property in the winter by parking at the Round Top Trailhead and walking down the access road, or by walking down the “B” Trail.
Camping and overnight parking are prohibited on the Homestead Property.
